Orascom TMT Investments S.ὰ r.l ("OTMTI", formerly Weather Investments II S.à r.l.) is a company incorporated under the laws of Luxembourg, with Mr. Naguib Sawiris as chairman.
OTMTI is an experienced investor and strategic shareholder in telecommunications and technology companies. Its history started in 1997 in Cairo with the creation of a mobile telecommunications group, Orascom Telecom Holding S.A.E. ("OTH"). OTH grew rapidly over the following decade, starting or acquiring operations in numerous countries including Egypt, Pakistan, Jordan, Algeria, Tunisia, Iraq, Bangladesh, Canada, DPRK; servicing over 100 million subscribers in 2011.
Weather Investments S.p.A (now Wind Telecom S.p.A) was OTH's majority shareholder, and in 2005 it acquired Wind Telecomunicazioni S.p.A., the third largest Italian mobile phone operator, and in 2007 also acquired the Greek mobile carrier TIM Hellas and rebranded it to become Wind Hellas. Wind Telecom was OTMTI's sole asset at that time.
In April 2011, Vimpelcom Limited ("VimpelCom") and Weather Investments II completed a transaction pursuant to which their respective telecommunications groups were combined. OTMTI recently disposed of its position in VimpelCom, but remains the majority shareholder of Orascom Telecom Media & Technology S.A.E. ("OTMT"), a company listed on the Egyptian and London stock exchanges. OTMTI is also indirectly the majority shareholder of Italiaonline S.p.A., a company listed on Borsa Italiana/AIM Italia 1; and of Dada S.p.A, a company listed on the STAR segment of the Milan Stock Exchange. It indirectly also owns the entire corporate capital of ITnet S.r.l. Furthermore, OTMTI owns other telecom, digital media and technology assets in Europe, the United States and the Middle East.
The experience of OTMTI spans all sub-sectors of telecommunications services provisions, including wireless, internet and broad band services. The collection of experiences and interests in telecommunications support companies provides OTMTI with a key competitive advantage to launch, re-launch and expand telecommunication networks.
